According to Ayurvedic wisdom, the three energies called "doshas" govern all functions of the mind
and body, and control all the forces in our environment. The doshas are called "Vata", Pitta" and "Kapha".
Although these doshas reside in all of us, one dosha is usually more dominant.
Keeping one's dosha in balance promotes optimum health so one can live a blissful life.
Vata Characteristics Pitta Characteristics Kapha Characteristics
Vata is a force made up of the
elements ether and air. Vatas are
very creative, fun-loving and
highly imaginative. They are lively
and kind, energitic and prefer
warm climates. When vata is out
of balance, there is a tendancy to
be scattered or anxious. Vatas
generally need containment and
grounding and therefore respond
well to calming scents inspired by
the earthly botonicals.
Pitta is a force created by the
dynamics of fire and water.
Pittas are naturally strong,
passionate assertive and
are comfortable in leadership rolls.
When pitta is out of balance, one
has a propensity to be overly
critical or reactionary. Due to
Pitta's fiery disposition, pittas do
not handle heat well. Cooling
scents are recommended.

Kapha is a force created by the

balance of water and earth. Kaphas

are easygoing, affectionate and

loving. They are forgiving, reliable,

stable, and slow to anger. Kaphas

tend to be a point of stability for

others. When kapha is out of

balance, one might become sluggish

and forgetful. Kaphas often need

invigoration and respond well to

stimulating scents and ozonics.
